YOU DID WHAT??? I gave up my commission.

It took me 32 years to find my career.  After high school there was 4 years of college + 4 years in the Marines + 3 years as a middle school teacher + 3 years working as a sales manager for a fortune 500 company.  I was trying to find myself as many of us do.  I am blessed to be in the real estate business….some of you may disagree but I wouldn’t trade one minute of my life with anyone.  Each experience has led me down a path that would become my career in Real Estate.

What is it that I love about this business?

I love helping clients find a place they’ll call home.  A place where they might raise a family and build a life.  And that’s special to me because they are trusting me with one of the biggest financial decisions a person can make.

I also enjoy building a relationship with my clients, many of whom go on to become friends of mine.

YOU DID WHAT???  I gave up my commission.

That was my wife’s initial reaction when I told her I wasn’t gettiing paid on this deal.  She hadn’t heard all the details, but in her mind she was already thinking about the braces my older son needed, how expensive college has become, cars, weddings, down payments, and all the other ways we may need to help our children.

But once I explained it to her….

I had a client purchasing a home who came up short after their previous home was destroyed by a fire.  I wound up forfeiting my $14,000 commission to make the deal work and help them pay for furniture and other necessities.

The tears flowed at the closing table as well as the hugs and the thank you’s.  I’m thankful for everything in my life and it felt right to help this family.
